Martin was a great person to work with as he always deployed a sharp intellect and amazing analytical skills at any problem. He was absolutely committed to ensuring that research and knowledge exchange was the best that it could possibly be and to ensure that every opportunity and link with the city and wider region was explored. I valued the calm manner in which he approached any issues. Martin frequently talked about his family and how proud he was of both his children. I also have a lovely memory of discussing fly fishing and then 2 days later he arrived with some beautiful fish that he had caught for us all to take home. He was a kind and generous person with a wonderful dry sense of humour. He will be missed by everyone who worked with him.
