I can’t think of a time when I didn’t know Martin during his Bristol years. In the faculty, in RBI, in the Directorate, and in the Farmhouse, we spent a lot of time together, but Martin was at his best when he was making things happen in the city and the region. He was the driving force behind so many collaborations and across so many disciplines and domains that it made my head spin. He knew how to mobilise the energy in a group of colleagues, to nail the key issue, and to drive the project forward, and always with that unique blend of acute intelligence, calculated timing, and dry humour. What a privilege it was to have known Martin and to work alongside him for so long. Thank you Martin for your loyalty and long friendship. You will be so missed.
